Diabetes

Diabetes Mellitis (DM)
There are 2 types of DM:
– Type 1 diabetes is when a child’s body no longer produces the hormone insulin. There is no cure for Type 1 diabetes but it can very effectively be managed.
– Type 2 diabetes in children is a chronic disease that involves the way the body processes sugar (glucose) for fuel. This disease is more frequent in adults but is becoming increasing frequent in children unfortunately.

Diabetes Insipidus (DI)
This is a much rarer form of diabetes. It results from a lack of a pituitary hormone called ADH or the kidney being insensitive to the ADH hormone.
