Asthma
Asthma is frequent in developed countries, including Australia. There are many theories about why asthma occurs so frequently in young children. Childhood asthma is a chronic inflammatory condition of the airways which includes recurrent episodes of wheeze, cough, shortness of breath and chest tightness. Symptoms can be triggered by viral infections, allergens, exercise or environmental irritants. An individualised asthma management plan developed in conjunction with a clinical team is critical to control symptoms, minimise aggravations and maintain normal activities.
